Korto Momolu is an Arkansas designer renowned for stellar appearances on both season 5 and All Stars season 3 of the hit reality fashion competition, "Project Runway." Well-known in the fashion industry since her debut on the Lifetime series, Korto has participated in NYFW multiple times to much editorial acclaim, but says that this is her final showing. I was lucky enough to snag a front row seat at the elegant Affinia Hotel in downtown Manhattan to bring an exclusive sneak peek of this Arkansas designer’s concluding collection to her friends and fans back home.
The tagline for Korto Momolu’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection is “Dark Cloud/Silver Lining,” and it aptly lives up to the theme. A marked departure from her previous lines, which showcase bright colors and bold, striking patterns, her newest collection is more muted – predominately black and shades of gray ranging from charcoal to silver, with the occasional pop of yellow like a welcomed ray of sunshine.
Luxurious fabrics and classic houndstooth are seamlessly paired with edgy leather, fur accents and the most surprising design element of the night – chunky crocheted scarves, jackets and even sleeves.
Korto brought a team of Little Rock makeup artists and stylists for the show to expertly execute the models’ smoky eyes, rich red lips and intricate updo braids. This team included Amari Briggs, Lena Ross of Blue Rose Boutique, Kakki Jones and Crystal Brown of Brows by Brownie. Arkansas was well-represented at fashion week with talent to match even a city as chic as New York.
